If you want your child to be amongst other children and
begin the schooling process, then use our simple guide to
a selection of Nurseries to help you make you choice. Many
parents look for a nursery that is close to home or close
to their place of work, but some drive many miles to take
their children to a good nursery school.
A mine field if you are a first time parent - what should
you look for? A few pointers...
 |
A Nursery should be bright and welcoming and with happy
children well occupied. Ask about quantity of staff to
children there are set standards that have to be adhered
to. |
 |
A good nursery will have an 'open door policy' and welcome
you to visit at all times. Not requiring you to make an
appointment. Turn up at different times of the day to
see what activities are done and turn up at lunch time
to see the quality of the food! |
 |
A good nursery will also have their procedures and policies
on show as well as the planning for each of the rooms,
again these are strictly controlled by OFSTED and should
be available for you to read at all times. |
 |
What extra curricular activities are there? And where
do the outside staff come from? |
 |
If you have more than one child do they have a breakfast
club for before school an after school club and holiday
club, you may need all three. |
 |
Do they have continuity of staff? This is important
to help a child fit in quickly and for you to feel confident
and secure, regular staff changes can have a negative
effect. |
 |
Ask questions
are you satisfied with the answers,
but more than anything go with what feels right if you
get good 'vibes' then you're probably right. BUT if in
doubt DON'T. |
